On Friday, May 20, 2005 Tech Tool and Mold, Inc. & Tech Molded Plastics LP was one of fourteen Pennsylvania businesses honored by the Small Business Administration in its 29th Annual SBA Awards Luncheon held at the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Company president, Scott Hanaway, accepted the honor for 2005 Family-Owned Small Business of the Year, Region III in front of an audience of approximately 200 attendees. Tech was founded in 1973 by Bill and Eva Hanaway and has been operating under the direction of company President Scott Hanaway since 1990.

The award recognizes Tech for distinguished achievement and performance in support of and advancement of small business development. The award for region III encompasses Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Tech Tool and Mold, Inc. & Tech Molded Plastics LP are product development partners specializing in total project management and engineering services for high tolerance and highly precise plastic components. This family-owned business has been a jewel in Meadville’s industrial crown for more than 30 years and prides itself on providing the best possible work environment for its 80+ employees. The SBA champion awards are presented to individuals and businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to fostering small business growth. Additional criteria for winning the award included the firm’s sales and profit ratios, increasing employment as well as volunteer efforts to strengthen the business community. Tech was nominated for the award by the Gannon University Small Business Development Center based in Erie.

The company is active with industry organizations such as the National Tooling and Machining Association with Tech’s president, Scott Hanaway, serving as Vice President of the local chapter and serving on the board of directors for the Manufacturer’s Association of Northwest PA.
